Popcorn is selected, specially designed for this purpose. Popcorn bursts due to the increase in pressure inside its kernels. Starch and proteins escape, giving the kernels their characteristic shape and white color. Popcorn is a relatively low-calorie product. It has the highest nutritional value when prepared without fat or using a good quality oil that doesn't burn, such as coconut oil.
Preparation:
- Preparing popcorn in a pot/pan: Pour the corn into the heated oil. The kernels should lie in a single layer on the bottom of the pot. Cover the pot with a lid. When the popping sounds stop and the pauses are longer than 5 seconds, turn off the microwave.
- In the microwave: Pour the corn into a bowl, cover gently with a lid, and microwave at 500-600 W for about 3 to 4 minutes. When the popping sounds stop and the pauses are longer than 5 seconds, turn off the microwave.
- Tip: Sprinkle the finished popcorn with salt or add a teaspoon of melted butter.
