Collagen hydrolysates (Viscofan® collagen peptides) are produced from cold-water fish, primarily salmon and cod, in a multi-step process involving gelation and subsequent enzymatic hydrolysis of native collagen peptides with an average molecular weight of approximately 3 kDa (SMW). This low molecular weight, which is essential for absorption, can only be achieved through cold hydrolysis of fish collagen. However, collagen is absorbed by the human body only when it receives adequate amounts of vitamin C, which is why the product contains a natural form of vitamin C in the form of acerola fruit extract, as well as vitamin B3.
